I spent years working for a large general contracting company. The work was good, the pay was solid, and I learned the trade inside and out. But something ate at me the entire time.
Every decision came down to profit margins. A roof could be done to the contract, exactly as written—no more, no less—even when a small improvement would have protected the home better in the long run. And that was business as usual. No one questioned it. Everyone understood: you do what the contract says, you move to the next job, you keep the margins tight.
I started thinking about my own home. Would I want someone treating my roof that way? Would I want the bare minimum instead of the right thing? The answer was no.
In 2021, I started S&F Roofing in Memphis. The mission was simple: do what's right, not just what's written. Build a company small enough that I could focus on one job at a time. Be the person I would want working on my own home.

One job at a time builds better roofs. When you're juggling five projects at once, someone's getting 20 percent of your attention. We keep it small so you're our only focus. That's not a marketing claim—that's how we stay sane and how your roof gets done right.
You should know who's doing the work. In most contracting, you talk to a salesman, then a project manager, then some crew you've never met. Here, you deal with the owner from start to finish. That matters. It means accountability lives on my shoulders, not hidden behind a company org chart.
Trust isn't built through pressure. We don't have door knockers or salespeople pushing hard. People call us because of the work we've done and the reputation we've built. That's slow. It's also honest. And it means when someone hires us, they actually want us there.
